Chinatown Intervention

There were two rundown properties in the Chinatown area of Downtown Honolulu in need of some redevelopment. Of the two properties, I chose to renovate the more Eastern location.

The programme called for a mixed-use space to incorporate the tavern and tavern-keeper style of other buildings in the area in which the business is on the ground floor, and the owner lived above the establishment. I designed a three-story space that consisted of a two story restaurant/bar, a nightclub, and residence on the top floor.

This design was proposed to the City and County of Honolulu, but was not chosen for the area as it was too modern and didn't fall in line with the language of the surrounding brick façade buildings.
